Senior Seminar at Kennesaw State University: A Reflection
It always seems to come back to the question “what is my ethical footprint?” Perhaps not in so many words, but it seems that every movement is inspired, at least in part, by this question. How can we do better? How can we be better? This is at the root of almost every post I’ve made, and every thing I’ve learned in my Senior Seminar class.
Being in this class and reading the thinkers I’ve read and hearing my fellow classmate’s thoughts has given me genuine opportunity to reflect on myself and how I live my life, from Sam’s essay on minimalism making me rethink turning to fast fashion, which has led to me getting all of my clothes from thrifting, to the work of Aneka, Alysia, and Marianna inspiring me to change my original final essay idea, which was issues surrounding the queer community, to one which considered the ways in which art could make tangible change for the better within large-scale community, and how that could be applied to movements the world over.

This class has shown me a new dimension of looking at these movements as well, going beyond appreciating their aims to examining and critiquing their means, and giving me a bit more perspective into which means are more effective for achieving any given movement’s goals. In the end, I think my ethical footprint has gotten a bit better with this class. But the most important thing I’ve learned so far is that even though I’ve come far, I still have a long way to go.
Whether it’s looking out for signs or calling them when I see them, how I can I help make the world a better place?
